The island dello Scalpello ha anche la particolarità di essere l'unica isola artificiale dell'Adriatico, in quanto costruita a partire da uno scoglio nel corso dei secoli dai marinai perastini, dopo che, secondo la tradizione, due di essi vi trovarono un'immagine della Vergine nel 1452.
Le Bocche di Cattaro, che penetrano per 28 Km la costa, costituiscono una simbiosi armonica tra vari ambienti naturali e un ricco patrimonio artistico: rappresentano il più grande fiordo del Mediterraneo ed anche il più bello. Circondata dai pendii dei monti Lovćen e Vrmac e dal Parco Nazionale di Lovćen e Orjen, l’area comprende 12000 ettari, di cui 2600 ricoperti dalle acque del mare.
La bellezza della zona ha affascinato scrittori famosi come Margherite Yourcenar, George Bernard Shaw e Lord Byron. Artisti di tutto il mondo le hanno attribuito appellativi come “La sposa del Mare Adriatico”, “La fata del Mare”, “Il golfo più bello del mondo”, “La bella bocca del Mediterraneo”. Nessuno però è in grado di descrivere la struggente bellezza che si presenta al visitatore, che fece scrivere al poeta Ljuba Nenadovic: "Mi sembra strano che il sole possa tramontare su tale bellezza."

The monasteries of Meteora












Meteora is a popular resort located in northern Greece, at the northwestern edge of the plain of Thessaly, near the town of Kalambaka. It is an important center of the Orthodox Church, as well as a popular tourist destination, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Twenty-four monasteries built with enormous sacrifices on these sandstone cliffs, currently only six are still inhabited, partly recovered after years of neglect:

The first settlements date from the eleventh century, when the first hermits occupied caves in the sides of cliffs.
Near the geological formation known Dupiani "at the beginning of the twelfth century it was a community of ascetics who gave impetus to a monastic state organized.
In the fourteenth century, in order to defend against the Turks, monasteries were built on the tops of rocks impregnable. It is said that Athanasio the founding of the Monastery of the Transfiguration (Great Meteora) with the strict monastic rules of Mount Athos, has called "Meteor" to the rock base of the building, thus giving rise to the term meteor still in use today.
After a period of accelerated growth and expansion of the monasteries, the passage of time and natural disasters, such as incursions by various conquerors, led the decline, many of them, especially after the seventeenth century.

In un’epoca nella quale "ci si accontenta di verità parziali e provvisorie", forzatamente "costretti a costatare la frammentarietà di proposte che elevano l’effimero al rango di valore", ci esorta a "non perdere la passione per la verità ultima e l’ansia per la ricerca, unite all’audacia di scoprire nuovi percorsi. È la fede che provoca la ragione a uscire da ogni isolamento e a rischiare volentieri per tutto ciò che è bello, buono e vero. La fede si fa so convinced and convincing advocate of reason. "

Relativism and Truth


The so-called doctrine of relativism is very seductive: There are no truths, every ideal is equal, everyone has the right to follow him without any constraint. Since that would automatically absolute respect for the ideas of others, the renunciation of any attempt to impose its own with the force: a dialogue and harmony insured. All easy, right? The mentality of "relativist" is also apparent in the daily discussions: it may happen that those who strongly supports a thesis, the speaker of "truth", he labeled as biased "dogmatic" (a term however, more appropriately, should indicate who refuses to discuss their thesis), or as "intolerant" (which should, rather, indicate who claims to impose their vision, rather than propose to debate common). It follows then some aggressive charge of relativism, which wants to cover its banality and superficiality.
The fact is that relativism is an abstract construction, that does not answer to the practical problems of life and civil society.
The argument that only compass of human action - in his personal life - should be 'Do what you want, without any serious reflection on the objective good of the person, is a thesis that seems to preserve individual freedom, but does not response to the natural desire for happiness and infinite man.
