The company today is similar to the era of the French Revolution. The Christian faith, in fact, has to face challenges even more complex than those of the post-1789. "If then there was the 'dictatorship of rationalism', at the present time there is for many people a kind of 'dictatorship of relativism'. Both responses appear inadequate to the just demand of man to fully use his own reason as a distinctive and constitutive of their identity. Rationalism was inadequate because it did not take account of human limitations and the demands of raising one reason the measure of all things, transforming into a goddess; contemporary relativism demeans the reason, because in fact come to affirm that human beings can not know anything with certainty beyond the scope of positive science. But now, as then, the man 'beggar for meaning and fulfillment' is always looking for comprehensive answers to the fundamental questions that continues to arise. "(BEN XVI August 5, 2009)
