The word "Tatev" in Armenian means "to give the wings." The monastery of Tatev, to 316 kilometers from Yerevan, was built in the ninth century, on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple . The Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as the state religion and had to struggle with paganism.
